Understanding Different Kinds of Theft Charges
There are many different theft charges, and most people use the terms interchangeably. But a burglary charge is vastly different than a robbery charge, and thus needs to be approached in a different way. At Garces, Grabler & LeBrocq, we have the experience and the resources to take on:
- Burglary charges. A person charged with burglary is charged with entering a building with the intention of committing a crime. You do not actually have to commit a crime to be convicted of the crime.
- Robbery. Robbery is a theft charge where a person has physically taken something off of another person. If the person accused of robbery is holding a weapon, the charge is upgraded to armed robbery.
- Larceny. Larceny is usually interchanged with theft, and simply means the taking of another person’s goods. Thus, a person who is accused of stealing a car may be charged with grand larceny, whereas a person accused of stealing a pair of gold earrings may be accused of petit larceny. A person who steals those same earrings from a store (as opposed to breaking into someone’s home) would be subject to New Jersey’s shoplifting laws.
All theft charges are serious, however, and need to be handled by an experience criminal defense attorney. Garces, Grabler & LeBrocq offers aggressive defense for clients facing everything from armed robbery to shoplifting. We always aim to have your charges dropped completely; when we cannot have them dropped, we are relentless negotiators who fight for much lesser charges.
Theft crime convictions can alter your life dramatically. Garces, Grabler & LeBrocq walks you through the process, and answers all of your questions, while building your defense strategy.
