3M Dual Sided Combat Arms earplugs were designed to protect members of the Armed Forces against hearing loss due to gunfire, ordinance, explosions, planes and other loud noises encountered in the line of duty. Between 2003 and 2015, 3m Dual Sided Combat Arms earplugs were designed and distributed to active duty military members to protect and safeguard the hearing and ear health of our nation’s bravest men and women who served in the military. 3m Dual Sided Combat Arms earplugs were the standard in hearing protection for every branch of the US military.
Recently, there are allegations that the design of the earplugs was defective because it failed to properly safeguard the ear during use. These earplugs were originally designed and produced by Aero Technologies. The 3M Corporation later purchased Aero Technologies.3M earplugs were designed with dual sided hearing protection allowing for one side to provide noise dampening with the ability to hold a conversation. The other side was designed to provide increased noise cancellation. However, due to a defect in the design of the earplugs and/or a failure to warn of the defect, the hearing of both active duty and retired military personnel has been permanently compromised.
If you are an active-duty service member or veteran who has suffered from partial/total hearing loss in one or both ears and/or tinnitus due to the use Combat Arms Earplugs allow Garces, Grabler & LeBrocq to navigate your path to justice.
Where 3M Went Wrong with These Dual-Ended Earplugs
The CAEv2 plugs were supposed to protect service members from the damaging effects of loud noises, but unfortunately, this was not the case. It was found that they were too short and could come loose in some users' ears, allowing harmful noise to slip through. Additionally, it was discovered that 3M had tested prototypes of these earplugs with a design defect that meant the earplug’s stem was too short to fit into it carrying cases. This led to an inability to properly insert or seal the earplug inside users' ears.
Moreover, government testing showed that these earplugs did not provide adequate protection against even moderate levels of sound exposure. The combination of these defects resulted in many service members suffering from hearing loss, tinnitus, and other auditory ailments. In 2018, 3M agreed to settle a lawsuit alleging they had knowingly sold the defective earplugs to U.S. military service members for years. The settlement amount was $9.1 million which was paid out as damages to affected veterans.
The conclusion of this case shows just how important it is for companies who are creating products intended for use by service members to make sure that those products meet all quality standards before being put into use to ensure the safety of our troops.
3M Knew the Earplugs Were Defective
The truth is that 3M was aware of the dual-ended Combat Arms earplugs' defects but failed to disclose this. This seems like a classic case of corporate greed as these earplugs cost only 85 cents to make, yet they were sold to the military for more than 8 times that amount ($7.63).
As a result, many soldiers now suffer from permanent hearing loss due to the defective product. Fortunately, those affected can take legal action and file lawsuits against 3M to get justice and financial compensation.
