The Violent Crimes Compensation Board is a public service that was specifically designed to lessen the financial hardship of crime victims through monetary relief and counseling services.

The victims of a crime may apply for crime victim compensation from the state of New Jersey, as well as surviving family members of the innocent victims who died as a result of the crime. If you qualify, you may be eligible for financial assistance, and we know how to get you those benefits, at absolutely no cost to you.

What You Need to File

• Completed NJ VCCA Application (these applications are available at all our office locations)
• Police Report
• Copies of bills, receipts and all loss
• Documentation

Time Requirements

• Report crime to Police within 3 months
• File claim application with NJ VCCA within 2 years

Benefits Provided

• $25,000 MAXIMUM

Mental Health Counseling

• Homicide Survivor – $12,500
• Injured Victim – $12,500
• Secondary Victim(s) – $7,000
• Group Counseling – $50 a session per victim
  

Medical Bills

• Medical bills of injured victims not covered by insurance
• Chiropractic/Physical Therapy – 30 Sessions
• Medical Supplies and/or other Prescription Drugs
• Medical Related Transportation – $30/day or $1,500 total

Loss of Earnings or Financial Support

• Maximum Amount – $600/week
• Loss of Support – 48 Months
• Loss of Earnings – direct victim – 104 weeks
• Permanent Disability – direct victim – 60 months
• Loss of Earnings – secondary victim – $7,000 max to care for primary victim
• W-2 or Tax Return Required

Other

• Funeral Cost – $5,000
• Transportation to Funeral – $300/person or $1,500 total
• Crime Scene Cleanup – $2,000
• Relocation Expenses – $2,500
• Domestic Help – $50/day or $6,500 total
• Child Care/Day Care Services – $6,500
• Victims’ Rights Attorney Fees (criminal matter) – $125/hr with a $1,000 max
• Attorney fees for representing victims in regard to their VCCA claim
• 15% of award or $125/hour, whichever is less

Catastrophic Injuries

• Supplemental $35,000 for Rehabilitative Services Only
