Michael S. Richmond

Michael S. Richmond, Esq. has joined Garces & Grabler, where he is bringing his more than 35 years of practice serving as partner and senior partner in several central New Jersey law firms and working in the criminal and municipal court defense, bankruptcy, business work outs and mortgage problems areas of Garces & Grabler.

For over 25 years Mike Richmond served in the municipal courts of South Brunswick, Franklin, Milltown, East Brunswick, Millstone and Montgomery as municipal prosecutor. He also served as the public defender in Plainsboro. In addition Mike served as the trial attorney for Frank Moore, Esq., trying all of his cases involving driving under the influence charges all over the state of New Jersey for the period from 1999 through 2001.

Mr. Richmond is the lead author of one of the two principal books on Municipal Court practice in New Jersey. He has combined his extensive background in prosecution of municipal court matters with his equally extensive experience in defending municipal court matters into the Gann book, New Jersey Municipal Court Practice.

Preserving one’s driver’s license takes place not only in municipal court but also in administrative proceedings of the Motor Vehicle Commission. Richmond has been involved in administrative proceeding from death by auto charges to improper points assessment. Our Trenton office is just across the street from the Motor Vehicle Commission Regional Service Center.

Mike Richmond has had the opportunity to work with one of New Jersey’s top bankruptcy attorney’s in representing individuals in filing Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy cases. During a previous mortgage crisis, Richmond worked with other attorneys to develop a method of using Chapter 13 filings to save homes from foreclosure because of soaring interest rates and balloon mortgages. Working with his department head, Michael Speck, Esq., they are developing a response to the current foreclosure crises which will bring into play the defense of improper closing practices and other equitable defenses.

Today’s economic climate has put most small and medium sized businesses in jeopardy.
Mike Richmond has served as counsel to Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Trustees; and has represented Chapter 11 debtors in possession. He understands how small and medium businesses operate as an owner and a lawyer. During his thirty-five year practice Mr. Richmond has represented clients in the sale, purchase and operation of businesses.
Michael Richmond graduated from Lafayette College in 1970 with an AB in History. He graduated from the University of Kansas Law School in 1973. Mr. Richmond has one daughter, four step-children and three grandchildren. He lives with his wife, Cookie Richmond in South Brunswick Township.
